okay so here is the pattern I'm working off of to do my humongous mario cross stitch for my video game addicted 4 year old, lol
Some small artistic licenses taken. Like the Princess Peach I used was never in the first Mario game
It is 781 stitches long (I'm using size 14 Aida cloth so that's about 5 feet long!)

Now THIS is an awesome cross stitch project! I may be a guy, but I love doing cross stitch. It's a very soothing thing to do. Of course, I also love playing video games, and seeing something like this that combines both my loves is really awesome! The finished piece of work was an incredible feat; you've inspired me to finish one that I'm currently working on for my girlfriend (a purchased kit with a unicorn standing on a cliff, with all some shooting stars in the sky).
Hmmm...I never thought to try Hobby Lobby for new kits (I'm looking for a good place nearby that sells them). I may try Ebay as well. In any case, great work! And thank goodness you used blue cloth!
